Arterial Chemoreceptors: Mal(adaptive) Responses: O2 Dependent and Independent Mechanisms (Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, 1427) (PDF Book)
By Sílvia V. Conde, Rodrigo Iturriaga, Rodrigo del Rio, Estelle Gauda, Emília C. Monteiro
In June/July 2020, Lisbon in Portugal will be hosting the International Society for Arterial Chemoreception (ISAC) meeting. The members will be contributing to the book reviews and brief research articles, which will be released as a comprehensive volume on recent advancements in arterial O2, CO2 and pH sensing following ISAC’s establishment about 70 years ago. The book will provide a fresh outlook on non-canonical roles of the carotid body, its association with sympatho-mediated diseases and recent discoveries in the carotid body field, which have established a firm connection with highly prevalent diseases from cardio-metabolic diseases to asthma. As most patients suffering from these maladies require constant treatment and have no long-term disease control, the book endeavors to create new pathophysiological mechanisms to find novel therapeutic targets for treatment and prevention. It will elaborate on fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms related to the chemical sensing in the carotid body, adaptive and mal-adaptive responses of arterial chemoreceptors to O2-dependent and O2-independent mechanisms alongside their impact on respiratory, cardiovascular and metabolic homeostasis in healthy and disease conditions. All researchers in arterial chemoreceptors’ field must have this volume, as it will provide a valuable reference source for years to come.
